Windows Vista DVD - Easter egg ?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Someone really examined the Windows Vista DVD and found these three guys, who are they?

I just checked on my legal copy of Windows Vista Home Premium, and these three men do exist as a holographic image. Each of the small blocks around the logo circle captured in one of the original pictures is an holographic image: it would appear one of them is an aerial view of a campus of some sort.

Motocross worst nightmare

Video: Mike Alessi drags some guy at Daytona
A MXer gets leg caught in tire of other rider who is unaware of it and drags him 50 feet at full throttle.
Good slow motion shots, showing the dude dragging from several angles.

That’s a tuff one!
Amazingly, he continues the race!

He was taken off on a stretcher only because he couldnt feel his leg. He was up walking around afterwards. No injuries.

Student arrested for making a map of his school

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/178/481769660_cca3007990.jpg?v=0

A Chinese student was removed from Clements High School in Fort Bend, Texas after parents complained he had re-created the school grounds in a game and uploaded the map for his friends to play. The boy was placed in the district’s alternate education school and later arrested, as the police considered him a “terroristic threat”.

“They arrested him, Chen said of FBISD police, and also went to the house to search”.The Lin family consented to the search, and a hammer was found in the boy’s room, which he used to fix his bed, because it wasn’t in good shape, Chen said. He indicated police seized the hammer as a potential weapon.

The Chinese community and the boy’s mother have rallied behind him, saying the school has acted too harshly in the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings. No charges were filed, though the boy won’t be allowed to participate in graduation ceremonies.

Photos of the CS map can be found here: (what a shame! this map looks pretty good!)

And here’s the actual map, minus the textures:

Later Update:

I found the whole story (originally hosted on Fort Bend Now):

A Chinese student has been arrested in Texas, charged with “Suspected Terrorist Activity”. This student was apprehended after parents discovered that he had used plans of his High School in the creation of a map for an online first person shooter. The authorities were notified after parents learned of the map from their children, who had downloaded it off of the internet.

“They arrested him,” Chen said of FBISD police, “and also went to the house to search.” The Lin family consented to the search, and a hammer was found in the boy’s room, which he used to fix his bed, because it wasn’t in good shape, Chen said. He indicated police seized the hammer as a potential weapon.

While no charges have been filed against the student, he has been removed from Clements High School and will not be allowed to graduate with his former classmates.

I don’t know what to say. For most of us who have ever designed a 3d environment, using familiar surroundings is very commonplace. With no sinister motive, designers use plans for all sorts of different areas to add variety to their designs. I don’t understand the punishment given to this student, who has been cleared of any premonitions for violence.

He has been convicted of no crime but then the school expels him? I guess “innocent until proven guilty” has no merit with the school board. Even with the authorities finding no evidence of gaming-related causes for the Virginia Tech shootings… It seems that we, as gamers, still are targeted as warped killers.

Romanian media debates death of E&Y “exhausted” young manager

Romanian media on Thursday debates the death of Raluca Stroescu, a young manager for Ernst&Young Romania, whose passing was blamed by a newspaper earlier this week on exhaustion at work. Raluca was buried at a cemetery in Ploiesti, north of Bucharest in the presence of the family and hundreds of young people yesterday.

Experts could not provide clear information on the causes of her death on Tuesday and Wednesday and that the necessary data will be available within weeks, but told reporters that she might have died of heart failure.

The Evenimentul Zilei newspaper on Wednesday reported that the background cause of the death was physical exhaustion as she was working too much for a salary of a couple of thousand euro, which is a very good salary in Romania.

Gardianul on Thursday quotes Raluca’s former colleagues who say that prior to her death she “was looking like a ghost. She was in a hurry. She had to put up a report”. According to the newspaper, “Raluca had worked so hard to become somebody until she collapsed. Still, who is to blame?”

“Is it worth dying for a salary of 2,000 euro?”, Evenimentul Zilei wonders in its edition today. The newspaper reports that Raluca’s death has sparked a huge public response about the conditions of work Romanian employees have to cope with and whether is it a good thing to abandon personal life for the sake of money and career.

The issue of career opportunities and what one can do to seize them is very hot in Romania where economy has been booming for years and salaries are still low compared to other countries, prompting major companies abroad to relocate businesses here.

Gandul quotes a doctor who examined the woman’s body, according to whom Raluca was underfed as she weighed less than 40 kilos. “She was not eating or she couldn’t assimilate food” the doctor said, while others said she also had problems with her heart and hormones.

Raluca, 31, had been working for Ernst&Young Romania for two years and a half. She previously worked for Vodafone. E&Y’s only manager that could be contacted by Cotidianul yesterday refused to comment the tragedy.

Raluca Stroescu - the first Romanian kamikaze manager

Shocking news: Romania, 21 April 2007. A 32 year old young woman was found dead in her apartment by her colleague.

Raluca Stroescu was found dead last Saturday by her Ernst & Young manager - who dropped by her home because she neither showed up at work, nor answered her phone. While her company does a very poor job at managing the crisis, and her doctors assess her physical condition as a lot more complex, Stroescu’s colleagues and family tell the world that she died because of exhaustion.

Raluca Stroescu dies after working overtime on successive nights over an extended period. In the last 6 weeks, she lost about 6 kg. Her colleagues said that she only weights only 40 kg in her last days. She was stressed and she didn’t have time for anything else. She asked her boss for a two days hollyday - pause - but she didn’t get it. Just before she collapsed, because she was feeling kind of sick, the company took her to the company clinic when it was almost too late. The doctors threated her and sent her home to take some rest. That happened on Friday, 20 April 2007, and that was the last day anybody sees her alive.

Raluca Stroescu was a young, attractive, smart, career woman, but she worked herself to death, literally. She was a loner, who buried herself in her work, a workaholic if you will. And in search of what? Yes, she wanted to be good, she wanted to get a promotion, she wanted to have a succesfull career. Whatever she was looking for, she paid the price and was way overcharged.

This is what japonese culture may say, a karoshi case , meaning “death from overwork”. This is the first well-known case of “death from overwork” happened in Romania!

May she rest in peace!

I wish I could give you a source in English, but the news didn’t spark the interest of the international media yet. Maybe now, with your help!

Boulevard of Broken Songs Mash Up Video

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
This is a great song mash up mainly between Green Day’s ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’ and Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’. But if you listen closely you can hear elements from loads of other songs. I picked out some Aerosmith, Eminem and Travis.
Enjoy it!
