A million tourists join millions of Rio de Janeiro citizens (&#8220;<strong>cariocas<\/strong>&#8220;) in enthusiastic revelry spanning several day.<br \/>\nCarnival takes place during the days preceding <strong>Ash Wednesday<\/strong>, the first of 40 meatless fasting days preceding <strong>Easter<\/strong> (Carnival derives from &#8220;<strong>carne vale<\/strong>&#8221; meaning &#8220;<strong>farewell to meat<\/strong>&#8220;).<\/p>\n<p>Here are the official schedules for the next several years<strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0pt 12px 0pt 60px\">  <strong>
