The Japanese National Diet Library’s website has put up a huge collection of photographs taken in Tokyo around the beginning of the 20th century.
After spending a couple hours on the site, I saved 22 of my favorite photographs and have posted them here for you all to enjoy. Most of these were taken around Meiji Year 44 (1913):
STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN
Cosmo’s Erotic Instructions:
“Sit on the second-to-last (rock-hard) stair in the shallow end of the pool with your legs spread… Have your man stand between your legs with his arms on either side of you as he enters you. He can lean on his hands for leverage as he thrusts wildly.” Smashing your spine and tailbone against the textured concrete stairs as skin tears away from your ass, back, elbows and his shins.
1. A life-size chocolate model of a Ferrari Formula 1 ~ £12,000($24,000)
A life-size chocolate model of a Ferrari Formula 1 car has been unveiled in Italy. Confectioners spent more than a year making the car out of 4,405lbs (2,000kg) of Belgian chocolate. It has now been delivered to Sorrento, near Naples, where it will be the centrepiece of a Ferrari owners club party. Luigi Liberti, president of the Scuderia Ferrari Club Napoli, said: “It will go on display until the weekend and then will be smashed up with hammers and handed out to party guests – they will be given bits of the car to take home in a special bag.”
The £12,000($24,000) chocolate Ferrari is based on an F2008, and has a red, edible coating.
This larval swallowtail butterfly’s clever disguise (left) is literally a load of crap.
In its larval stages, the Asian swallowtail—also known as the Chinese or Japanese yellow swallowtail—mimics the appearance of bird droppings to prevent predators from gobbling it up.
In its last phase of development, the insect turns green (right) to blend into the leaves on which it lives.
This is a truly amazing music video of the world-renowned child prodigy known as ‘Mo Kin’ – a very adorable and extremely talented three-year-old North Korean girl who plays a very complicated and interesting song on the xylophone as seen on North Korean and Japanese TV. Additionally, despite being so young, ‘Mo Kin’, whose real name is ‘Ri Higgin’, also can play the piano very well and, believe it or not, can already read the written Korean language at the senior high school level! Yes, indeed, this truly amazing, natural-born genius is such a huge shining light within so much darkness. It is my sincere hope that she is able to keep performing for many years long into the future.
2. Little Drummer Boy
Four-year-old Jonathan Nicklagard has become the talk of Sweden after demonstrating his drumming ability on national television. Jonathan was given his red drum kit by his brave parents for Christmas and in just a few weeks has mastered keeping rhythm. His moment of television fame saw him drumming to a hit by Lars Winnerback, one of the country’s most popular singer-songwriters. He is quite honest about why he is so good: “Because I have played so much. I think it is fun.”
3. Baby Beatle Sings “Hey Judeâ€
Hero Ha is a young Korean boy still in diaper and a big fan of The Beatles. He loves to sing along and his YouTube videos have made this “Baby Beatles” quite famous.
Here’s the clip that started it all: a 3-year-old Hero singing his favorite Beatles song “Hey Jude”:
4. Baby Girl Is a World Map Genius
Meet Lilly — the girl whose geography knowledge should make Miss Teen South Carolina and Miss Hawaii feel very, very ashamed. Little Lilly is not even 2 years old yet, but she knows where each country is located on the map. We think this baby genius is ready to face the contestants on ‘Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?’ Two year old Lilly knows her geography better than than, let’s say, 97.38% of Americans

Coca Cola (the real one) is not only great to drink, it also has many uses around the home.
This list of uses was tested on ordinary, original Coca Cola, not the diet kind, or any of the variations there are available.
1. Cleaned a burned saucepan by pouring Coke into it and boiling. This takes out all the staining.
2. It’s easy to make a modern photograph look like an old sepia one. Just lightly brush the photograph with Coca Cola and dry quickly. Don’t wet it too much or it will buckle. Photocopied black and white pictures make great looking “antique†prints, if you treat them in the same way. Maps photocopied and treated this way, look fantastic in antique style frames.
3. If you dye your hair and the result is too intense, flat Coca Cola will help to lighten it.
4. Give old coins a soak in Coke. This gives a brilliant shine for collections and decorative items.
5. Pour Coca Cola into your kettle and leave all day. This will remove limescale and leaves it clean inside.
6. A can of Coke poured into the toilet will clean it. The acid in the drink gets to work right away.
7. Make an excellent barbecue sauce by mixing Coke and Ketchup , half and half. Coat chicken, meat, etc with this before cooking. It’s mouthwatering.
8. Flat Coke makes a good hair conditioner. Pour it over your hair, rinse and dry.
9. Put Coke into flat wide dishes in the garden and it will help to rid your plants of slugs. They are attracted by the sweet smell and once they fall in, they can’t get out.
10. Rusty bolts can be loosened by soaking a rag in Coca Cola, and wrapping it around the bolt. Leave for a few hours and it will be easier to move.
11. Clean your jewelery in a glass of Coke. Brush with a toothbrush and rinse well. (Not recommended for valuable items, or those with gem stones in them.)
12. Flat Coca Cola helps to settle upset stomachs. Don’t use fresh, fizzy Coke as this could irritate the condition. (Take the fizz out by adding a little sugar, if you need to.)
