One of the benefits of seeing a new Pixar movie in theaters is catching the short film that plays before the feature. The studio has churned out gems like Day & Night, Partly Cloudy, One Man Band, in front of some of their biggest hits, and this year in front of Brave the wonderfully charming short La Luna was featured. The short has now been released online in full, so if you missed director Enrico Casarosa’s gorgeous pic in theaters, now’s the time to rectify that. Not only is the story top-notch, the film also includes a great guitar-infused score by Michael Giacchino. Though it ultimately lost the Best Animated Short Oscar to William Joyce’s moving The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, it’s still a swell piece of work that’s well-worth your time.

The Butterfly Effect is a short CG animated film Passion Pictures has made in partnership with Unity, the games engine developers using the new Unity 4.0 3D software. The film was written and directed by Dan Sumich and is a homage to the classic action films from the 1970s through to the 1990s, with a soundtrack by the legendary heavy metal vocalist Steve Grimmett. An ordinary looking guy wakes up one morning feeling the worse for wear and realises he’s run out of milk. As he drags himself out of the house to go and buy some, an extraordinary sequence of events draws him into a journey of mayhem on the streets of San Francisco

Story: Toki’s tribe expects him to bring home the head of the biggest animal possible. In return, he will receive honor and respect. However, this rite of passage does not turn out as planned. With the help of a colorful new friend, he achieves something much bigger.

Cu voia dumneavoastra, reluam rubrica noastra saptamanala si anume animatia de vineri. Astazi atingem cumva subiectul serialului Familia Simpson insa doar pentru a va introduce defapt in subiectul acestui post: “Itchy and Scratchy” – cele doua personaje ale desenului animat pe care Bart si Maggie il adora (De Maggie nu stiu ce sa zic, suzeta ei nu prea imi da semne).
Update: Am uitat sa mentionez, urmeaza 48 de minute de umor negru. 😀
